Error messaging & routing rules for ASN creation in Seller Lab

When selecting Stock Keeping Units (SKUs) while creating a Fulfillment by noon (FBN) Advance Shipping Notice (ASN) in Seller Lab, your selections are continuously checked against noon’s routing rules. If a selected item breaks a rule, Seller Lab displays which rule was broken, explains why, and provides quick actions or auto-split solutions to resolve it.

How do routing rules work

  • Where you see it: When you start the ASN creation process and move to the SKU selection step, the Routing Rules panel can be viewed inside the Selection Summary during the ASN creation process on the right side of the Select SKUs step.

  • Status Overview: It indicates how many rules are currently broken (e.g., 1 Action needed) or confirms All rules OK when your selection is valid. You also see all the rules that noon checks during ASN creation.

  • Fixed Order Check: Rules are evaluated sequentially. If multiple rules are broken, only the first broken rule will open up for resolution. Once resolved, the system checks the next rule.

  • Regional Variations: Checks depend on your destination country. The panel may display different rule lists or sequences depending on where you ship.

  • Quick Actions: Where possible, quick resolutions are listed under "Choose one to resolve", displaying how many item lines will be removed for each action.

Rule status indicators

  • Blocked (Red Outline): The selection of SKUs you made violates a rule, and you cannot proceed until it is resolved. Affected SKUs and the reason why its blocking the ASN creation is highlighted.

  • Waiting: The check is pending because an earlier rule must be resolved first.

  • All Rules OK: All checks have passed, allowing you to move to the next step.

Detailed guide to routing rules

Below are the routing checks evaluated during ASN creation, listed in sequential order:

Rule 1: Products noon doesn’t inbound here

  1. Issue: noon does not inbound these specific SKUs into FBN within your selected destination country.

  2. Visual Indicator: Affected items are tagged with Not Allowed in the SKU list, with the specific reason beneath the product name.

  3. Resolution: Since the items are not allowed, you cannot select these items for the ASN creation as that option will be greyed out.

Rule 2: Products missing their size classification

  1. Issue: Items cannot be routed without both a Storage Type and a Size Classification in the catalog.

  2. Resolution: You can add these products to the ASN once both Storage Type and Size Classification has been added to the product. You can either choose to:

  • Add dimensions: Click 'Add dimensions' to supply missing item measurements.

  • Remove product: Click 'Remove product' to drop the SKU from the ASN.

Rule 3: Products no warehouse can receive

  1. Issue: The item's combined size classification and storage type are not supported by any warehouse in the destination country.

  2. Resolution: Click Remove product to remove the line.

Rule 4: Sizes that ship on their own

  1. Issue: Bulky items cannot be combined with other size classifications (e.g., Standard or Oversize) in the same ASN.

  2. Resolution: You can chose on the below suggested resolution.

2.a- Select Keep Standard only or Keep Bulky only (which removes the opposite size lines).

2.b- Alternatively, use the Preview Split feature to automatically divide the items into separate ASNs without losing lines.

Rule 5: Storage types that ship on their own

  1. Apparel (UAE Only) / Over-the-Counter (OTC): Apparel/footwear items must be inbounded on a dedicated ASN and cannot be combined with other storage types. Similarly OTC health products require an isolated ASN.

  2. Resolution: Choose Keep Default only / Keep Apparel/OTC only, or split the selection into separate ASNs.

Rule 6: The majority size picks the warehouse

  1. Issue: When combining size classifications, the majority size determines the primary destination warehouse.

  • At least 70% of items must route to one primary warehouse.

  • The remaining minority quantity must stay below 500 units.

  1. Visual Indicator: You can also see the split on the seek shown on top of the routing rules column.

  2. Resolution: Select Keep Standard only / Keep Oversize only, or adjust quantities as indicated by the Selection Summary gauge.

Rule 7: What can be shared in the same shipment

  1. Issue: Some storage types cannot be inbounded together in the same ASN, whatever their size classification. If your selection combines two of them, this rule blocks the ASN and names the storage types involved. Split the selection into separate ASNs, or remove one of the storage types.

  2. Resolution: Split the shipment into separate ASNs or remove one of the conflicting storage types.

Rule 8: Unrestricted products ride along

  • Behavior: Items without handling restrictions automatically follow the destination warehouse assigned to the rest of the selection. If that warehouse cannot accept them, they can move to a secondary warehouse—provided they make up less than 30% of the total shipment (under 500 units).

Resolving multiple rules: Auto-split feature

If your selection breaks multiple rules (such as mixing Bulky and Standard items), you do not need to manually delete lines. Seller Lab can automatically divide your items into separate, valid ASNs.

Steps to use auto-split:

  1. In the Selection Summary box, click Preview split.

  1. Review the pop-up summary, which details:

    • SKUs and unit counts assigned to each proposed ASN.

    • Destination warehouse names and location codes.

    • Line totals and estimated speed-of-processing improvements.

  1. Click Split into 2 ASNs (or relevant number) to confirm.

  1. The system will confirm Auto-split applied and mark rules as All rules OK. 

Note: You can click Undo at any point before finishing if you wish to return to your original selection.
